Policy Cloud adopts Seamless and SQL Data Skipping to improve policy making against radicalisation.

About Policy Cloud

The Policy Cloud project will harness the potential of digitisation, big data and cloud technologies to improve the modelling, creation and implementation of public and business policy.

Funded under the European Commission’s H2020 programme and over a three-year period from January 2020 to December 2023, Policy Cloud will deliver a unique, integrated environment of curated datasets, and data management, manipulation, and analysis tools.

The project will address the full lifecycle of policy management using the data analysis capabilities of the European Cloud Initiative.

Challenge faced

Policy Cloud runs four pilot cases in four different EU countries: Bulgaria, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. The Pilots cover complex themes in very different fields and will serve as demonstrators for data-driven policy management and leverage methodologies for user participation from citizens and communities. The results will be evaluated in heterogeneous environments and settings, demonstrating the applicability and re-usability of the developed models and tools in different countries, contexts and sectors.

BigDataStack technology enhanced

Policy Cloud adopts and enhances both the Seamless component, to analyse data across different  datastores. And the SQL Data Skipping component, to reduce the size of the data scanned for answering the SQL query to accelerate analysis of the data and avoid data exhaustion.

During its #BigDataPilotDemoDay, Policy Cloud explained how both technologies are planned for uptake in the overall architecture and how it will help policy making against radicalisation, one of its four pilot applications. Watch the video!
